CEC and Wake with TiVo button Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) allows you to control other CEC-enabled devices through your TiVo device.

TiVo support for CEC will work only if the TiVo DVR is connected to a CEC-enabled device such as a TV and/or an A/V receiver. If the TiVo DVR is connected to an A/V receiver (or a home theater system) that does not support CEC, but the TV does, CEC will not work.
When Wake with TiVo button is set to
ON, pressing the TiVo button or the voice button enables the TiVo DVR to wake up from standby, power up the TV (if necessary), switch to the right input, and display the TiVo device as the active source. If the user has an Amazon Echo connected to the TiVo DVR, saying a TiVo supported Alexa command like “Alexa, change the channel to XX” also wakes up the TiVo DVR.
Note: Volume control at this time is not supported, but can still be controlled by manually programming the volume button on the remote, please see
How to Program a Remote to Control a TV/Stereo to find out more.
By default, Wake with TiVo button is
OFF. To enable it, navigate to:
TiVo Device | Menu path from TiVo HOME |
TiVo BOLT Series TiVo Roamio Series | SETTINGS > REMOTE, CABLECARD & DEVICES > REMOTE CONTROL SETUP > Wake with TiVo button > YES |
REMOTE CONTROL SETUP screen with Wake with TiVo button enabled Note: If your TV or AV receiver supports CEC, pressing the TiVo button will wake the TiVo DVR from standby and turn on your TV/AV receiver. To use this option, make sure that your TV/AV receiver has the CEC option turned on.
To find out more, please see
Consumer Electronics Control (CEC).
CEC and Alexa-enabled TiVo Devices
If Alexa voice commands are issued to change the channel, launch an app, or navigate to a different screen on the user interface, CEC will be triggered.
For example, saying “Alexa, watch NBC on TiVo”, will change the channel to NBC while simultaneously causing the TV and AV receiver to turn on as well provided those devices are CEC compliant.
Note: CEC will not be triggered during nightly system calls/reboots.
